This coffee is mild but good. It has no bitter aftertaste. It’s a good breakfast coffee.

I’ve found the Gloria Jean’s flavored coffees all to be a bit weak, which probably isn’t a big shock coming from someone who is typically fueled by Coffee People Wake Up Call. In fact, I initially bought this for my wife, who is a Tim Horton’s devotee. Well, perhaps “was” a devotee… In any case, I was hooked on my first cup, and doubled our Subscribe & Save order.

GJ Special Blend is pretty middle-of-the-road, which is to say, great just about anytime. It isn’t enough to jumpstart my morning, but it’s the sort of coffee I can enjoy after dinner, and not worry about being up all night.

If you’ve been to any not-Starbuck’s coffee shop, this tastes like the universal House Blend. It’s totally smooth, with no “bite” or aftertaste. I’m not sure what GJ does in Special Blend, but it seems to have a house-filling aroma which is excellent.

Even if you’re a huge fan of flavored coffees or more exotic blends, you’d do well to pick up some of this for when you have less adventurous guests over.

Why not 5 stars then? There seems to be a consistency problem with Gloria Jean’s. It seems each box has between 3 and 5 cups that just taste “funny”, and I haven’t noticed this problem with anything from Timothy’s, Coffee People, or Green Mountain. It’s been a few months since I started buying this, and it continues to be a problem. As soon as they manage to sort it out, this would be a 5-star product all day long.

I love Gloria Jean’s flavored coffees and didn’t think I’d go wrong with a regular blend… Don’t make the same mistake!! Have two boxes shoved in the back of my cupboard… can’t stand the stuff.

  4. Julia M. Dufaj says:

I started using this in the Decaf and liked it so much, I bought it in the regular for everyday use. To me, this coffee tastes like coffee is supposed to, not bitter and acidic like some of the bolds, but smooth, round, and well balanced. You can still run it through twice on the small cup setting and get a great cup of coffee.

  5. Book Carpenter says:

I’ve finally found a coffee for the Keurig that I like completely. For me, it’s perfect – good taste, not bitter.
